This cute little mashup has been brewing for a while. I have always loved Alice in Wonderland because it seemed like a new different world. Then when I was introduced to the films of Studio Ghibli my mind was blown once again with new characters, concepts and realities. So a piece that could combine two of my loves just made sense. |
I always start with a pencil sketch no matter the medium. A new design has too much potential and I have learned not to force it into a box. Before, if I drew it on canvas it had to be painted, sketched on a tablet, it had to be digital and so on and so forth. I noticed that it would limit my creativity from the start. So now I always start on a paper sketch,in this case it became a couple paper sketches taped together as the Idea grew and morphed into the complete design. Then from there in this case, I wanted lots of clean colors with some light texture. So I scanned it in and digitally redrew the clean line work over it. After that it was just the process of building on color layers and texture. |
